Top 5 Reasons Why You Should Use Your Local Library

Doing this Read 50 books in 2015 has given me an incentive to visit the local library again.  I remember I used to LOVE going to the library because there was always something to read.  I've compiled a list of 5 reasons why you should go to your local library.

1. It's free!
Seriously, what better reason to go to the library - it does not cost you anything!  The only time you would have to spend money is maybe if you're late in returning your books or if you're printing something.  Other than that, you have thousands of material you can check out for research and personal purposes.

2. Free WIFI!
Yes a lot of coffee shops now have free WIFI however, 9 out of 10 probably requires you to purchase something or if you have conscience you may feel obligated to pay for something.  At the library there is no pressure other than them requiring you to own a free library card.

3. Silence granted.
Do you hear that? Precisely!  At the library it is so quiet.  If by the off chance you are sitting at a table where students and studying and visiting there are even designated quiet rooms you can go to.  This is imperative when you really want to get in the zone and you do not want to be distracted.

4. Help is there.
If you need help finding something there is always someone willing and ready to help you at the library.  If they do not know the answer they don't tell you no and leave you to it they go and find someone who knows the answer or can find the answer.

5. Media available other than books.
It's not just books that they have here, they've got movies, music, audio books, and more and more e-books are even becoming available.

When was the last time you've been to the library? What do you like about your library?  Comment below and share your thoughts with us!

  1. This is a good article. I haven't been to the library in a while because I've bought the last several books that I've read (or in the process of reading). These are good reasons to be able to use the library and I believe most of these thing (if not all of them) exist at my local library. By the way, "The Book of Lost Things" by John Connolly which is in the picture with this blog, I recommend that book. It's one of the books that I own at home and I absolutely enjoyed reading it. You should check that book out.

    1. These are the books that I checked out recently actually. I finished "The Book of Lost Things" this morning - it was a wonderful read. I guess my situation is like the reverse of yours right now. I have many books in my to-read pile that I've acquired in the past but since I know I have a deadline of when I need to return these books I feel like I have to finish them first! I suppose I can always renew them if I don't finish them in time but I'm really determined to make a dent in this challenge that I'm doing. :)

  2. I remember going to the public library. It really helped teach me responsibility at a young age. I remember that if I didn't read the book and bring it back, I had to pay for it.

    1. Yes, fines are never fun. When I was younger my bill was so high in fines that I had claimed that I lost the book because I knew it was cheaper to just pay for the book than pay on the fines. I was not as responsible back then.

  3. I usually go to my school library, but it isn't really silent there. Everyone likes to talk in the library. However, I guess that is school for you. Anyway, I have only been to a public library once. I believe I should start going to the public library again. Free WIFI and coffee.
